The year 2020 has proven to be a worldwide milestone – to say the least. In this Second Issue of The CPR (Concise Practitioner’s Report), I felt compelled to note that the dedication of the Court of Appeal may go unnoticed in years to come. Our bench, fully composing of only local judges has moved to deliver a bulk of judgments worth two sessions in one session. The reason being that the April session of the Court was unfortunately postponed by a Covid-19 lockdown [of 2nd April 2020]. With that said, may the following bench be ever commended for their dedicated efforts, and perhaps inadvertently, be a displayed glimpse of our trajectory towards a fully local appellate bench:
I. S. Kirby (President)
I. B. K. Lesetedi (Justice of Appeal)
M. S. Gaongalelwe (Justice of Appeal)
L. S. Walia (Justice of Appeal)
Z. Makhwade (Justice of Appeal)
L. I. Dambe (Justice of Appeal)
A. B. Tafa (Acting Justice of Appeal)
M. S. Letsididi (Acting Justice of Appeal)
G. G. Ketlogetswe (Acting Justice of Appeal)
“I am getting older now and when the time comes for me to step down eventually, I would like to leave behind me a stable and well respected court.”
Informal comments of honorable Judge President of the Court of Appeal Ian Kirby
